Sketches for AtMoM

Some of my sketches for my personal project I'm doing for HP Lovecraft' At the Mountains of Madness. I'm working on the concept art for Dyer, Danforth, and Lake. I'm going to paint most of these head-shots for the practice. Also I posted one of my more readable sketches for the Elder Things. I'm deviating from Lovecraft's description a bit on those.

Quick study

Just a little painting test I did for myself for a personal project I am doing. I kind of want my characters to have the same quality of surreal the Dishonored concept art and the painting Laurel Austin did for Brink. I love both sets of art so much. I will do another study like tomorrow. Maybe with a more organic brush than the rectangular one I used. Santa and Krampus

Playing around with different types of art. This is for a creative challenge thing on Facebook. The work had to have Santa, Krampus and a christmas tree.

The grandmother comps for Rule of Names that I'm doing for myself. I've been sick the past week and I've been working on portfolio revisions so my personal projects have gone on the sidelines.... But yeah here we go! I'm probably going to go with the second to last variation in the second row.

Gray-scale photobash

A quick learning experience. I was trying to take photos and add painting to them to make an environment….. but I got bored. I should have done it in color and blending rock photos in black and white with painting wasn’t the most interesting thing to do. I’ll do a color one tomorrow and that should be more interesting and a better learning experience than this one was.

Long time, no post.

I haven't uploaded in a while. I've been busy doing a lot of non-art things to try and make money and I've been doing a little freelance and I can't post that work... So here is my current work in progress from my personal project. I hope to start posting more of this project and a revision of this piece later this week.

Rule of Names 001

I’m redoing an old project from well over a year ago based off of Le Guin’s “Rile of Names” These are just comps. I’m going with the character design of the second girl in the top row. I’ll have more from this project hopefully next week to post.
The style I was going for is Bedouin meets Inuit.

I drew the sketch over a year ago and this past week I decided to paint this. Still need to work on this some… like I still need to integrate her with the background better. This has been a fun piece.

This is an unused piece from Bloody Mary that I have been fixing up for my portfolio. I spent today making small fixes like adding atmospheric perspective and more detail from a critique from Jen. I still need to render up the focal point a bit more. But I actually really like this piece.

Trying to apply what I have read to my paints. From a photo I took last time I was in Tahoe. It was kinda funny last time I was there I had no internet so I had to go out and get all my own reference for Bloody Mary, luckily I was just doing trees, and for an art test that I had a time limit of 3 days on. It was a frantic 8 hours in the woods trying to find perfect reference or downloading internet reference on my phone. So long story short I have 500 sort of hastily shot photos of Tahoe area.

I forgot that a while ago I had changed up the cabin interior, but I found it while I was trying to organize what I want to put into my portfolio when I update it later in the week. So I added spiderwebs today. Oooooo spooky~

Studies from the past few days

I did a bunch of studies from photos this past weekend. I'm trying to train myself to not zoom in to my paintings so much and gain speed. I'm probably on going to do studies this week. I have pushed my own projects back a bit but I feel I am learning a lot that will help me when I get back to them.

Working on fixing up a painting from a few months ago. Messing around with lighting. Still trying to figure out some things about this piece and add a few more things.

Bloody Mary Cabin Redesign

I had to redesign the Bloody Mary cabin, feedback said the previous cabin was too whimsical but as the story and setting of the game evolved a more real-world based cabin was required.
I still have a lot I plan to change or add to this but for now I'm posting it. For example I feel the bird poo on the roof isn't reading and the birds in general feel odd. Also I want to do some cloud/ash/smoke study paintings before I proceed on this.

Destruction of an Angel

A top part of a newel post for a room I was designing for Bloody Mary. They changed the game so the room won't appear in it, but I am still finishing it and all the props I did for it up. So look forward to seeing that over the next few weeks.

Mizz Hyve shetches

These are some quick sketches of a character I'm working on called Mizz Hyve. More to come in the next few days.

Bloody Mary trees

Some trees I designed for Bloody Mary. I wanted them to be simple enough for a modeler so I didn't put little limbs everywhere.
The first two are trees that have fallen and been warped under winter snowfall. The third is a lightning hit trunk.
