July 22: City Above the Sky

July 22: City Above the Sky
30 Day BG Challenge Day 22
This one is interchangeable with my floating landscape one…
So yeah I haven’t been posting my stuff daily. There’s a reason for this. The dailies have just become perspective exercises for me and are just line arts. So I will have a batch update with all of them sometime next week. Since I have been trying unsuccessfully to get into the industry for the past few years I know I’m not good enough, so I figured it would be more helpful to me to try to do perspective and good design than getting a paint out each day. Trying to get better at the important design stuff, ya know.
But yeah I have another one that is color that I will probably post on Monday to space posts out more evenly.

July 19: A Graveyard

July 19: A Graveyard
30 Day BG Challenge Day 19
Sloppy line-art again.... I’ve been looking back at a lot of my paintings this month and well they weren’t well designed or in correct perspective. No point in doing a painting that is poorly designed .... So for the rest of the month(and forever) I’m gonna be focusing more on those two aspects. In short there may be a lot of line arts for the rest of the month. I know they aren't the most exciting thing to look at, especially the way I sketch.... I’m in the group where you just sketch on it until you get it the way you want it and “who needs Cntl-Z or erase?”
But I actually think compositionly this is stronger than the two graveyards I did in May

July 16: Someplace You Would like to Live

July 16: Someplace You Would like to Live
30 Day BG Challenge 16
A quiet apartment with just my dog…. maybe my cat… but otherwise alone….
This was a super quick piece that I lost interest in, but you can also tell part way through I wanted to change styles…..

July 14-15: A Museum and An Underwater scene

July 14-15: A Museum and An Underwater scene
30 Day BG Challenge 14 & 15
Why no paints you say? Well last night I was painting a museum when five minutes from completion my surge protector shorts out. When my computer restarts and I reopen the file I discover that the PSD is corrupted….. Which would be shitty if it was just one day’s paint, but it was my past week’s worth of paintings. So I lost seven paintings. I was pretty devastated because some I was going to go back and finish. But after I cried for a while I got back to work and the new composition for the museum is better than the one I had painted. Then comes today… Where every time I started to paint and about halfway through it happened again! No recovered file just one corrupted mess. So that’s why even today’s isn’t painted, it was just too frustrating. Enjoy so sloppy like art for today.
I do hope to get around to painting these two despite the current anger I feel towards the pieces…. Maybe they are cursed?
In the end lesson learned: don’t have multiple days worth of paintings in the same file, save incrementally, and get a decent damn surge protector. So tomorrow back to paintings as usual, at least I hope so. Right now though I’m going to do something other than Photoshop.

July 7: SciFi Scenery in a Desert
30 Day Background Challenge Day 7
A quickie from yesterday while g-chatting with an acquaintance. I don’t really like this painting, but I really like the color scheme, so I’ll probably use it again soon.

July 6: An Attic
30 Day Background Challenge Day 6
This one deserves to be finished…. I need to add more junk and props…. less of them being dolls.

July 5: Cowboy landscape

July 5: Cowboy landscape
30 Day Background Challenge Day 5
Something super quick for today. I did a different sketch originally but I came to the realization that I wanted to mock-up the buildings in 3D and well I realized it would be a rather in-depth illustration… for another day.

I like this one and it deserves a little more time than I gave it.

July 3: “Uninhabited” Planet

July 3: “Uninhabited” Planet
30 Day Background Challenge Day 3
Eh…. Don’t really like this one. I had envisioned rock formations something more like Giant’s Causeway… This is too much me painting on autopilot and isn’t alien enough.. too terrestrial. Onto tomorrow’s and isolated swamp! Sounds fun.

July 2: A Witch’s Room

July 2: A Witch’s Room
Day 2 of 30 Day Background Challenge
I like this one but I want to go in and change a lot of the props. As you can see I didn’t finish yesterday…. I’ll work on this some more after I finish today’s paint and work on my portfolio some then I will repost this painting once I revise it….

July 1: Your Bedroom

July 1: Your Bedroom

I decided this evening to do another 30-Day Challenge sort of thing. So It’s the background challenge. So here is my bedroom/storage room…. And yes that bed is curved and uncomfortable, but it’s better than the hardwood floor I had been sleeping on for a year and a half until about six months ago….. So beggar’s can’t be choosy now can they.
I wish I hadn’t rushed the early part of the painting so much. The end result would have been much better.
Tomorrow’s topic(Wizards room) is gonna be more exciting.

My Uncle's Art

Something a little different today.
I’m posting some photos of my uncle’s art that he makes on the ground with his scooter wheelchair. My uncle was diagnosed with ALS last year. He is rapidly losing his ability to move and is now wheelchair-bound. But always the artist he has been making these large-scale paintings on the ground recently.

PS. Sorry about the photo-quality. They were taken with my mom’s iphone
